Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements for consideration for the Thelma DeWitty Honors Program:

• A completed application for the Thelma DeWitty Honors Program.

• A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5.

• Two letters of recommendation from a teacher, staff, or faculty member.

• A current résumé.

• A one-page essay responding to the following prompt:
Describe a personal passion, be it art, technology, sports, or another area, and explain how you believe this passion can be a catalyst for positive social change. How can individuals use their unique interests and talents to contribute meaningfully to their communities or address broader societal challenges?

• A one-page essay responding to the following prompt:
Why should you be selected to become a Thelma DeWitty Scholar, and how do you plan to make an impact through the Thelma DeWitty Honors Program?

Required Submission Materials

Applicants are required to submit the following documentation electronically to dfergins@wileyc.edu and danafergins@gmail.com.

FAFSA 2026–2027 Confirmation Documentation

Applicants must submit a screenshot or scanned copy of their FAFSA 2026–2027 confirmation email.

The documentation must clearly display:

• Applicant’s full name

• Student Aid Index (SAI)

• Pell eligibility confirmation statement

Optional Submission Materials

Applicants may also submit:

• Documentation verifying 20 community service hours

Continuing Student Consideration

For continuing students, admission will be considered based on academic performance and active community involvement at Wiley University.

Honors Program Handbook

HONORS SCHOLAR EXPECTATIONS & CONDUCT STANDARDS
The Thelma DeWitty Honors Program maintains elevated standards of academic achievement, leadership engagement, and professional conduct. Scholars are expected to demonstrate integrity, civility, accountability, and responsible citizenship both on and off campus.

TDHP honors requirements specifically require students to:
• Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5
• Attend monthly meetings and enrichment sessions
• Participate in community service each semester
• Remain in “good standing”
• Participate in leadership and experiential learning opportunities

CONDUCT EXPECTATIONS
TDHP Scholars are expected to:
• Respect faculty, staff, peers, and campus visitors
• Avoid disruptive or threatening behavior
• Follow the Wiley University Student Code of Conduct
• Maintain appropriate communication and responsible social media conduct
• Refrain from bullying, harassment, fighting, hazing, intimidation, or inappropriate misconduct
• Uphold professionalism during campus events, travel experiences, and public engagements
• Conduct inconsistent with the mission, values, and expectations of the Honors Program may result in disciplinary review and potential loss of honors standing.
