Marshall, TX – Wiley University proudly announces the launch of its Financial Literacy and Wellness Community Access Programs, a powerful new initiative made possible by a grant from the T.D. Jakes Foundation and Wells Fargo Bank. This announcement marks the beginning of Phase II of the university’s financial wellness programming and coincides with its Juneteenth Celebration—a moment of reflection and empowerment deeply tied to Wiley’s historical roots.
“In 2024, Wiley University received a grant from the T.D. Jakes Foundation and Wells Fargo Bank to engage individuals in opportunities to increase their financial literacy and wellness,” said Dr. Tashia Bradley, Vice President for Strategic Initiatives. “We have been testing our services on campus for the past year through course credit, badges, and the online learning platform Our Money Matters, to provide a comprehensive experience for our students. We are now ready to launch Phase II, focused on the Marshall/Harrison County community.”
Beginning June 19, 2025, community members will have access to an array of free services designed to strengthen their financial literacy. Upon registration, participants will receive credentials and a complete schedule of upcoming workshops—available both in-person and online—as well as access to digital resources, giveaways, and the Our Money Matters platform. Topics include saving, credit development, homeownership, investing, retirement planning, and more.
“We are excited to launch this experience on Juneteenth as another reminder and acknowledgment of our freedom possibilities,” said Wiley University President and CEO, Dr. Herman J. Felton, Jr. “As the academic home of Juneteenth Activist Dr. Opal Lee ’52, we are proud to create additional pathways of freedom for our community. Financial freedom is one of the ways we can honor the traditions of our ancestors who were once enslaved. Juneteenth is a celebration!”
Wiley University invites all community members to participate in this transformative program and take the next step toward financial empowerment.
