Marshall, TX – Wiley University, in collaboration with The Arts Alliance, LLC and the Marshall Regional Arts Council, will host a meaningful Juneteenth Reception and Art Exhibition on Wednesday, June 19, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Wiley University Welcome Center, located at 711 Wiley Avenue in Marshall, Texas. This event is designed to celebrate freedom, amplify local Black voices, and bring the community together in recognition of both historical and contemporary achievements.

The reception will feature keynote speaker Angela Fitzpatrick ’99, Superintendent of Karnack ISD, who will offer reflections on leadership, education, and the ongoing pursuit of equity. The celebration will also include the presentation of the 2nd Annual BOSS Awards, honoring two influential community leaders—Dr. Carol Hicks and Charles H. Cornish III—as Marshall’s Best Female and Male Bosses. Their leadership and service exemplify the excellence that continues to shape the city and inspire the next generation.

Guests will have the opportunity to experience the “Women on Canvas” art exhibition by acclaimed artist James “Jimmy” Greene. This powerful showcase highlights the beauty, resilience, and influence of Black women through bold and evocative works. The exhibition will be on view June 16–20, with daily access from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Welcome Center.

To deepen the historical significance of the celebration, there will be daily showings of “Hidden Gems: The History of Juneteenth and Marshall, Texas” at 1:00 PM, presented by nationally recognized storyteller DeCee Cornish. These sessions provide attendees with a deeper understanding of Marshall’s important place in the broader story of emancipation and African American heritage.

The Juneteenth celebration is free and open to the public. It promises to be an enriching experience for all who attend, blending art, culture, history, and community recognition in a meaningful and engaging way. Light refreshments will be served during the reception.
