Wiley University’s story began in 1873 through the vision and support of the Freedmen’s Bureau of the United Methodist Church. Founded eight years after emancipation, Wiley University became a place where newly freed Black people could pursue education, opportunity, leadership, and purpose.
More than 150 years later, Wiley University continues to honor that sacred beginning.
