Our Wileyite Spotlight for the month of December 2019 is Mrs. Winnie Winkley. Mrs. Winkley was born in Waskom, TX to the late Jackie Johnson, Jr. and Mrs. Mary Johnson. She graduated from Marshall High School in Marshall, TX and enrolled in Wiley College where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management in 1996. This program allowed her to work full- time and complete her degree in 18 months. Although she did not join a Greek-letter Organization, her fondest memory of Wiley College was watching membership presentations and step shows.
Winnie worked twenty years in the banking industry, almost six years for the Region 7 Education Service Center and has been employed for the last 14 years (and counting) as the Assistant to the Chief Human Resource Officer. Mrs. Winkley is a proud member of the Marshall Area Wiley Club in which she is currently completing her second term as President; having served two terms as the Club’s Vice-President and is a member of the National Alumni Association. She is a life member of the NAACP and serves in several other civic organizations.
She is an active member of the Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where her husband Willie Winkley, Sr. is a life-member and deacon. She is the proud mother of seven children by marriage; three of whom of are living. Her grandchildren are the joy of her life.
Winnie is a proud alumnus! She is always willing to lend a helping hand to support club fundraising projects, as well as, assist students in need with money, food, etc, to keep their minds on academic performance and persisting to graduation.
