Our Wileyite Spotlight for the month of January shines on Mr. Larry Stallworth, a member of the Class of 1975.  He was born in Prichard, Alabama, and moved with his family to Pensacola, Florida, at the age of four. Stallworth graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola. In high school, he served as Senior Class Vice President.  After high school, he attended Pensacola Junior College and was a member of the Track Team.

After attending Pensacola Junior College, Stallworth enrolled in Wiley College.   At that time, he was recruited to play football by coaches John Tankersley, Clyde Duncan and Lu Gene Jones.

After receiving the news that Wiley College’s Football program would not return, he received two football scholarships to attend Alcorn State University and Bishop College.  Stallworth transferred to Bishop College to play under the leadership of head coach, Floyd Iglehar.  Igelhar was a former All-American Football Player at Wiley College.  Stallworth enrolled at Bishop College for three weeks and decided to re-enroll at Wiley College in the spring of 1973.

When he returned to Wiley, he was initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, Alpha Chi Chapter.  One day while on the campus, he met the love of his life and soon to be wife, Carolyn Frazier, a native of Mountain Pine, Arkansas. He shares that he met this beautiful lady while she was becoming a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Phi Chapter at Wiley College.  She, too, is a member of the Class of 1975.  The couple smiles as they share that they were married right here in in Marshall, Texas, on June 12, 1976, by Wiley College’s  then Chaplain, Reverend Dr. Telly Miller.  The couple will celebrate 43 years of marriage in June of 2019.

Stallworth said his fondest memories of Wiley College involve “attending the athletic events, fraternity events, and meeting new people on a yearly basis.”

Stallworth was employed by the Escambia County School District in Pensacola for 35 years as a Social Studies teacher, a guidance counselor, and basketball coach.  He retired in June 2010.

He is a proud member of the Wiley College National Alumni Association, and a charter member of the Wiley College 90s Boyz / Turners Sisterz and Friends.

Stallworth is a member of the Zion Hope Primitive Baptist Church.  He is also the proud father of two daughters, Erica and LaToya.  The one who has captured his heart the most is his only grandson, Grant.  The hobby he loves most is Bass fishing on the lake.
