The Assistant Vice President for Business and Finance, Strategic Retention Officer is a senior management position with the responsibility for receiving and disbursing all of the funds of the College; from maintaining a system of internal accounting control to ensure proper accounting for all funds; and for compliance with all laws and regulations pertaining to the College. The reports directly to the Vice President for Business and Finance, and will assist the Vice President for Business and Finance on all fiscal matters. The Assistant Vice President ensures the effective and efficient operation of the day to day management of the Business Office, Auxiliary Operations, Purchasing, and Risk Management; ensures that accounting transactions are accurately recorded to the general ledger applying sound accounting principles to the maintenance of fiscal and accounting records; and provides oversight to the Treasury Management and Inventory Control functions. The Assistant Vice President for Business and Finance will provide direction and oversight to the Division in the absence of the Vice President. This position will also direct attention to the retention of a diverse student body.
A master’s degree with emphasis in accounting and finance preferred. A C.P.A will add additional value. Must have five or more years of supervisory experience and experience in accounting, financial management or business management with increasing responsibilities for multi-faceted direction and planning; experience in higher education finance management and business. Must possess theoretical and practical knowledge of accounting principles and auditing procedures, including FASB; knowledge of database and accounting computer application systems to supply the most accurate financial information; ability to prepare and analyze budgets and complex financial statements; and excellent oral and written communication skills and analytical and organizational skills. Knowledge of GASB will be helpful to expand contribution. Highly desired skills include knowledge of state of Texas and/or college fiscal procedures as experience with the Jenzabar or similar administrative management system.
