This month’s spotlight is on Wiley College alumna, Gloria Polk Mitchell. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Marshall, Texas to the late Willie Floyd and Velma Aliece Fisher Polk. She graduated cum laude from Wiley College in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management.

She was a member of the first graduating class of the Wiley Management Institute which was a program developed for non-traditional students. As a non-traditional student, she was able to balance a full time job and complete her degree in the 18-month program.

Her fondest memory at Wiley was her commencement day. She was excited to graduate with honors as a single parent to two wonderful sons who were both born during her matriculation at Wiley.

Mrs. Mitchell is currently the interim registrar at Wiley College. She has dedicated her time and service to the college for a total of 8 years and 10 months. She is also a proud member of the Marshall Area Wiley Club where she serves as vice president.

Outside of Wiley, Mrs. Mitchell volunteers with various organizations throughout her community. She is a member of the Mt. Zion Spiritual Church where her husband Michael Mitchell ‘12 serves as the assistant pastor. She is the proud mother of sons Quinton (28) and Quebec (27), and a proud grandmother to her granddaughter Chloe Aliece.

Mrs. Mitchell loves helping others in any capacity and enjoys spending time with family and friends. Most importantly, she loves her HBCU Wiley College.
