Our Alumni Spotlight for November shines on Mr. Phillip Muguhu, who hails from Harare, Zimbabwe. A 2015 Wiley graduate, Phillip, is currently a Financial Planning and Analytics (FP&A) Manager for Walmart, Incorporated at their home office in Bentonville, Arkansas. In 2016, he graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas where he earned a Master of Science in Finance. Phillip aspires to be Chief Financial Officer of a Fortune 500 Company.
While at Wiley, Phillip played the baritone saxophone for the Wiley College Collegiates Jazz Band under the direction of Dr. Stephen L. Hayes. He credits his fondest memories of Wiley College as having the privilege and opportunity to represent the College in numerous jazz band concerts including Marshall’s very own, Boogie Woogie Festival.
In addition to the Jazz Band, Mr. Muguhu participated in the Student Success Program at the College and enjoyed many direct impact roles. He eagerly served as a mathematics tutor to his fellow Wildcats. When asked why he took on more responsibility with an already demanding schedule, Phillip quoted Mark Twain, “A person who won’t read has no advantage over one who can’t read.” He went on to say “To that effect, I would not do the best for my community by not exerting myself. Knowledge is powerful and the burden that the Almighty has tasked those of us that possess it, is to share it.”
Recently, Phillip proposed to his girlfriend and is now engaged to his fiancé Ms. ShaRonda Sandidge! The two plan to marry in 2021. Phillip and ShaRonda are proud fur parents to a dog named Snickers. Phillip stated that “Giving back, affords others an opportunity to get a quality education and the Wiley experience.
