Wiley College A Cappella Choir Spring 2022 Concert
Wiley College, A CAPPELLA Choir, presented their Spring 2022 Concert on Sunday, April 24, at the Marshall Memorial City Hall Performance Center, in Marshall, TX. In addition to the dynamic talent of Wiley College students who performed, they also included internationally recognized vocalists Mr. David Sea of the Temptations, Mr. Lennie Williams, renowned opera soprano Ms. Brenda Wimberly, and Miss Breah McGlothin.
Under the direction of Gregory A. McPherson, Director of Choral Music, Professor & Resident Artist Composer, the 31-voice choir captured the community’s hearts, minds, and ears, administrators, faculty, staff, and student body. The choir is one of the nation’s most accomplished and innovative vocal ensembles. Exhibiting a repertoire from the Heritage Anthem “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” arranged by Roland Carter, to such pieces as “Tamen: Fanfare” by G.A. McPherson, the program shared beautiful music from the Black Music Diaspora. Their performance included various genres such as; gospel and soul. Many of the songs performed were arranged and produced by Director Gregory A. Mcpherson.
The event provided opportunities for first-time appearances from Genre Noir, a newly formed Wiley College men’s vocal group featuring students Marcus Speed, II, Malachai Westbrook, Andrew Selmar, Nigel Moore, and Randal Wiley. A special tribute was provided by a Sony recording artist and student Tyson “Prof. T-Money” Manning.
The Wiley College, A CAPPELLA CHOIR, was founded in the late 1890s; the legacy of the choir’s performances has presented a myriad of works by numerous composers and commissioned works by Black composers written expressly for the choir.
