A: The overall student to professor ratio is 15:1. Q: How do I request a campus tour? A: The preferred method to request a campus tour is to make a tour reservation by contacting the Unit of Admissions at 800-658-6889. Q: Do you have special visitation days? A: The Unit of Admissions and Recruitment hosts two special visitation days on Saturdays: The dates for 2007-2008 are: November 3, 2007 April 19, 2008 Q: Is the College open on Saturdays? A: Usually, administrative and academic offices are closed on Saturdays. However, if you would like to schedule a campus tour on a specific Saturday, The Unit of Admissions and Recruitment would be happy to accommodate your request. The Unit of Admissions and Recruitment accepts applications up until the first wee Q: Where is Wiley College located? A: The school is located in Harrison County on 63 acres of land west of Marshall, Texas and between Dallas to the west and Shreveport to the east. A major airport is located in Shreveport, just thirty minutes away from the College. Q: Is Wiley College public or private? A: Wiley College is a private institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church and the United Negro College Fund. It is an historically black, primarily liberal arts, residential, co-educational and undergraduate institution established in 1873. Q: What is the cost of tuition? A: The current cost of tuition for the 2007-2008 academic year is $14,700.00, which includes general fees, room and board, technology fees and books. Q: What degrees and programs does Wiley College offer? A: Wiley College offers a variety of majors to fit the needs of our students under three academic divisions: Arts and Sciences, Business and Technology and Education. Q: What is the application fee and how do I pay? A: The application fee may be paid by phone by calling the Business Office at 903-927-3207 or by check or money order to: Wiley College Unit of Admissions and Recruitment 711 Wiley Ave Marshall, TX 75670 Make sure you include your social security number with your payment or call the unit of admissions to be assigned an ID number at 1-800-658-6889. Q: When is registration? How do I register? A: Before you may register for classes, you must have been admitted to the College, have satisfied College testing requirements, and have met with an academic advisor in the department of your major. The courses offered and registration times for each semester are printed in the Course Schedule, published and circulated by the Registrar’s Office prior to class registration. The Registrar's Office is located in the Enrollment Services Building, or call (800) 658-6889. A: Academic Year 2007-2008 Fall 2007 August 23 Spring 2008 January 11 Fall 2008 August 21 Q: How long does it take to process an application? A: From the time that the application is completed, processing may take up to 14 days. The time it takes to process an application can vary depending upon how much time there is before the next semester starts. Q: What is the status of my application? A: When you submit an application, you are notified within seven days that we have received your application. After your application has been received and reviewed, we will notify you by letter or phone of any missing requirements. After your admission file is complete, you will receive a letter informing you of your status. Q: Do you need an official transcript or can I send a copy? A: Our office will need a current official transcript from every institution attended. You should have your school send it by mail to the Unit of Admissions, 711 Wiley Ave, Marshall, TX 75670 or you may bring it to the Admissions Office in the Enrollment Services building. Q: Do I need to submit my SAT/ACT scores for freshman admission? A: Your admission is based primarily on your completion of high school. Currently, there are no minimum SAT/ACT scores required for admission. However, if you would like to be considered for scholarships you will need to submit SAT/ACT test scores. Q: How many courses or hours will transfer from a community college? A: It is the College’s policy to accept course credit earned at institutions fully accredited by their regional accrediting association. Credit will be accepted for individual courses for which a grade of C or better was earned. Courses must be college level and not remedial or developmental. Q: When will I know which credits will transfer? A: Once you have submitted your official transcript(s), an evaluation of your coursework will be conducted. Normally, a letter will be sent to you listing the credits that the College has accepted. Q: If I am a former student, do I need to fill out another application? A: If you have been out of Wiley College for one calendar year, you will need to submit another application and a $25.00 application fee. Q: Is there someone I can talk to about what I need for admission to Wiley College? A: Yes, Wiley College Admissions Counselors are available daily from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. in the Enrollment Services building. You may also contact the unit by phone at 1-800-658-6889 or email at admissions@wileyc.edu International Questions Q: How do I get an I-20? A: You must apply to the College and fulfill all admission requirements. When you are admitted, an I-20 is issued. Q: How long does the international admission process take? A: Once all required documents and tuition payments for the academic year are submitted, approximately 2 to 4 weeks are required to complete the admission process. Q: Is there an application fee? A: Yes; the application fee for international students is $50.00. Q: How high do I have to score on the TOEFL to be accepted to Wiley College? A: The TOEFL test is required of all international student applicants from non-native English speaking countries. If English is not taught or spoken as the official language, the student will be expected to present test results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language with a minimum acceptable score of 500. Q: What are the SAT score requirements? A: Currently there are no minimum SAT/ACT scores required for admission. However, if you would like to be considered for scholarships you will need to submit SAT/ACT test scores. Q: What type of financial documentation do I need to provide? A: Wiley College requires a deposit of one year’s tuition, room and board and fees (if not on institutional scholarship), which include a non-refundable $50.00 application fee and a $55.00 housing application fee for on-campus housing. |
