- Workshops
Making a positive first impression is crucial in a job interview. An employer’s opinion of you is not solely based on your skills, but also on how you present yourself. By dressing professionally you can show employers that you mean business. This workshop addresses the importance of appropriate dress as it relates to interviewing and business situations. Information is shared about the differences between business attire and business casual.
Employers sponsor internship and co-op programs to identify, test, groom and recruit candidates. Internship and cooperative educational programs are increasingly popular as a recruiting tool. In a recent NACE survey, eighty-five percent of employers across all hiring sectors reported that they sponsored experiential learning opportunities. More than 98 percent of those use them to recruit for their work forces. Discover your dream internship —near or far — with University of Dreams.
Professional networks/organizations exist to promote a particular field, provide a forum to discuss issues of mutual interest and, most importantly, to link people together with common goals. The Counseling and Career Planning office can help you identify a professional or relevant association in your local area with which to get involved.

Graduate and professional schools offer an opportunity for you to undertake advanced study in areas of interest and/or to accomplish a career goal. There are some professions that require an advanced degree such as law, medicine, and postsecondary teaching. However, if you are uncertain as to your career goal, careful thought and consideration should be given before applying to a program. Making an informed decision about pursuing a graduate or professional degree requires an in-depth self analysis, research of schools, and development of a plan. It is recommended that the planning and preparation begin approximately 18 months before expected entrance. This would include the self analysis, the research of graduate programs, and a plan of action.
Choosing a Major is not always the same as choosing a career. While some careers require a specific undergraduate major, many do not. Nursing and engineering are examples of careers which require a specific undergraduate Major. Other majors can significantly increase your likelihood of entering a career field. Journalism, social work, and accounting are such degrees. Meanwhile, a degree in Liberal Arts might take you in several directions. You can begin exploring the connection between majors and careers right here by finding a general description of the major, career options, typical employers and salary and employment outlook information at Wiley College.
- Graduate School Visits
Campus visits are an important component to making your graduate school program decisions. Just when you decide to visit is up to you, but the most crucial point of visitations is to get your own perspective on what you can expect from certain graduate schools. Here a few of the graduate school visits that are scheduled this year year:
