Wiley College students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends, and supporters began their week-long celebration of the College’s 139th Founders Observance Sunday with a worship service and family dinner. The worship service was held at Ebenezer United Methodist Church where Reverend Develous Bright serves as the pastor. The speaker for the opening service was Dr. Larry Hygh Jr., Associate General Secretary, Director of Communications for the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church. Dr. Hygh is no stranger to Wiley College or the Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He grew up in the Marshall community and faithfully attended Ebenezer with his parents, Mr. Larry Hygh Sr. and Mrs. Sharon Hygh. During his heartfelt sermon, Dr. Hygh spoke fondly of growing up in Marshall, Texas, of attending Ebenezer, and of his visits to Wiley College. Mr. Larry Hygh Sr. is a Wiley alumnus who serves as a coach at Wiley. He and his wife, Mrs. Sharon Hygh, a retired school teacher, are both loyal supporters of Wiley College.
After the worship service, the congregation braved the rain to travel to Wiley to attend the Family Dinner in the Fred T. Long Student Union Building ballroom. The dinner was sponsored by Mrs. Renee Lederman and Mrs. Linda Macon in honor of their late mother, Mrs. Theresa Edwards.
Monday night, the Student Government Association hosted its annual Faculty/Staff Appreciation awards in the Fred T. Long Student Ballroom.
