The Wiley College Wildcats’ baseball team (24-9, 8-1) recently climbed into the number one spot in the black college baseball poll, leaping passed West Virginia State. Head Coach Pedro Ithier, recent winner of Wiley’s Coach of the Year Award, has led his team to the 2010 Red River South Title as well as a number three seed in this weekend’s Red River Athletic Conference tournament. On Saturday, May 1, Wiley will face the number four ranked UT-Brownsville at 1:00 p.m. in Fort Worth. Other first round matchups include the number one seed Texas-Wesleyan facing the sixth seeded Texas College, and the second seed Northwood battling against Bacone, who is in the fifth slot. The tournament will be double elimination with the championship game held on Tuesday night. Earlier this season Wiley enjoyed a three game sweep over UT-Brownsville.
