WILEY WILDCATS “PAINT THE TOWN PURPLE” IN CELEBRATION OF HOMECOMING 2009

Marshall, TX – Wiley College will celebrate Homecoming 2009, October 31 through November 8. The community of Marshall and surrounding areas are invited to join alumni from all over the world in celebrating the legacy of Wiley College during the first week in November. The town will sparkle in “purple pride” as the College showcases this year’s theme “Wiley College: Achieving Excellence Through Pride in Performance”. Students, faculty and staff will kick off events by expressing their Wiley spirit on Monday, November 2nd by decorating their respective doors in celebration of homecoming. There will be a Clash of the “Classes” Basketball Championship in the Alumni Gymnasium at 6:00 p.m. The championship game culminates a tournament comprised of teams from each class fielding their own all-star basketball teams. A comedy show will be held at 10:00 p.m. in the Robert E. Hayes Sr. Auditorium of the Wiley-Pemberton Complex. General Admission for this event is $7.00. On Tuesday, November 3rd, students will participate in The Wiley Challenge, a mini version of the Honda All-Star Challenge Bowl in the Julius S. Scott, Sr. Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Miss Wiley College 2008-2009 will be honored at a Queen’s Dinner in the Fred T. Long Student Union Ballroom. Sixty-five campus queens representing various divisions and units across campus will attend this celebratory dinner. On Wednesday, November 4th, faculty, staff and students will show off their cooking skills with one of their favorite homemade dishes in the “Taste of Wiley” cooking extravaganza at noon. The Alumni Day Convocation will be held Thursday, November 5th at 2:30 p.m. This annual event will feature the outstanding Alumni Choir. The day’s events will culminate with the homecoming volleyball showdown between the Lady Wildcats and the Lady Warriors of Bacone College at 7:00 p.m. in the Alumni Gymnasium. On Friday, November 6th the faculty and staff will strut their respective stuff in the annual Fashion Show Luncheon in the Fred T. Long Student Union Ballroom. General Admission for this event is $15.00 and lunch is included with ticket purchase. The Homecoming Pep Rally will take place immediately following the fashion show on the grounds of the Fred T. Long Student Union Building. Later that evening, Miss Wiley College 2009-2010 will be crowned in a formal coronation in the Julius S. Scott, Sr. Chapel at 7:00 p.m. This annual event is the formal ceremony for Miss Wiley and her inner court. A reception honoring Miss Wiley will immediately follow the coronation. A student concert will wrap up events for Friday. Saturday, November 7th marks a full day of activities for Wiley students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends. The morning begins with an Alumni Golf Tournament at Oak Lawn Golf Club at 7:00 a.m. Marshall area golfers are welcome to participate in this three-man scramble. A tournament fee of $50 is required for all participating golfers. The annual Homecoming Parade will take place at 10:00 a.m. Line-up will begin at 9:00 a.m. in front of the Freeman P. and Carrie E. Hodge Center. The parade will leave the Hodge Center and proceed left onto University to North Allen. The parade will then turn right on North Allen to West Houston. From West Houston, the parade will turn right onto South College. The parade will turn right on South College onto South Carter. From South Carter, the parade will turn right onto Moore towards Wiley Avenue. The parade will make a quick left on Wiley Avenue and a right onto University Street. From University, the parade will proceed back to the Hodge Center. At 2:00 p.m. the Wiley Wildcats will take on the Blue Devils of Dillard University in the Homecoming Basketball showdown, general admission is $8 for this event. Homecoming 2009 will conclude with the President’s Blues Concert at 9:00 p.m. at the East Texas Conference Center.
