Marshall, Texas—The Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services at Wiley College announced today this year's line-up of keynote speakers for the 2009 Ethical Student Leadership Conference to be held January 22-25 in Marshall Texas, at the Julius S. Scott Sr. Chapel on the Wiley College campus.
The Reverend Dr. Robert Long, Pastor of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church of Oklahoma City, will deliver the keynote address on Thursday, January 22, at the opening banquet scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the East Texas Conference Center. Long will speak on leadership to illustrate precisely what embodies a true leader and demonstrate how to consistently focus and take responsibility while working to improve the lives of other people.
Leadership and business motivational speaker, Dr. Diane Dixon, will address the conferees on Friday, January 23, during a plenary session, addressing transformational leadership. Dixon holds a doctorate in Education from the Executive Leadership in Human and Organizational Learning Program at George Washington University; a Master of Education degree from Loyola College and Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard University. Dixon writes a regular leadership column for Caring for the Ages, which is an official publication of the American Medical Directors Association.
U. S. Ambassador William Eaton will discuss the concept that the world has become increasingly flat, and that it requires leadership that is steeped in ethical principles. He will engage the conference participants in an interactive discussion and share leadership perspectives that are based on his service as a Minister-Counselor in his Senior Foreign Service career. Ambassador Eaton is currently the Diplomat in Residence for the University of Texas at Austin.
Additional plenary speakers will include Dr. Horace Judson, President, Grambling State University; Dr. Miles McCall, President, Lon Morris College; Dr. Dorothy Yancy, President Emeritus, Johnson C. Smith University; Dr. Melvinia King, Director of the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Ethical Leadership, Morehouse College; Dr. Grace Hwang, Assistant Professor, School of Leadership Studies, Kansas State University; Ms. Genie Wilson Dillon, Director of Solutions Development, Bill J. Priest Institute for Economic Development , a campus of El Centro College; Mr. Jeff Johnson, BET Talk Show Host; and Ms. Suzanne Mayo-Theus, CEO, Mynette Management, Inc. "The College is proud to announce this year's lineup of extraordinary keynote speakers for the 2009 Conference," says Dr. Haywood L. Strickland, President. "These acclaimed speakers will share their stories of ethical leadership and inspiration for student participants to take back to their respective campuses and to help them elevate their own leadership skills."
In addition to this year's engaging keynote speakers, Wiley is also pleased to announce the addition of a Pre-conference Resident Assistants’ Development Workshop; Director of Residence Life Michael Vickerstaff indicated that “the goal of the workshop is to improve the professionalism of resident assistants in the performance of their responsibilities and to develop their leadership skills.”
