WILEY COLLEGE PRESIDENT’S SPRING CONVOCATION SLATED FOR JAN. 22

Marshall, TX – Wiley College President and CEO, Dr. Haywood Strickland, will officially declare the 2009 spring academic semester in session on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in the Julius S. Scott, Sr. Chapel. President Strickland will deliver the opening address for the occassion. In addition, the new freshman class will be formally introduced to the Wiley College family.

Wiley College continues to be recognized as a higher education leader in the East Texas area. Innovative programs such as the Organizational Management and Criminal Justice Administration Programs help non-traditional students complete their degrees through a rigid and aggressive 18-month educational program.

Wiley College begins its 136th year in Marshall, Texas, and proudly bears the distinction as the oldest accredited historically black college west of the Mississippi River. Founded in 1873 by the Freedman’s Aid Society of The Methodist Episcopal Church, Wiley College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and is a primarily liberal arts, residential, co-educational, baccalaureate degree-granting institution affiliated with The United Methodist Church.

Wiley College presents special speakers and programs each week during Tuesday convocations throughout the academic year to promote the covenant relationship Wiley enjoys with The United Methodist Church. As with the President’s Spring Convocation, the community and the general public are cordially invited to the Wiley College campus for these special times of fellowship.
