Janet Eaton, Head Coach

Janet Eaton, a coaching veteran with over 14 years of experience, entered her first year on the Lady Wildcats staff in July 2008. Prior to Wiley College, Eaton worked at Lamar University out of Beaumont, Texas where she served as interim head coach.

While serving as the interim head coach, she led the Lady Cardinals to the seventh position in the Southland Conference Tournament. Overall, Eaton’s record as interim head coach was 2-3. Before coming to Wiley, Eaton served as assistant women’s basketball coach at Lamar, as well as director of athletics and head women’s basketball coach at Xavier Preparatory High School in New Orleans, La. While at Xavier Prep, she was named Metro Coach of the Year, Co-Catholic Coach of the Year and the Orleans Parish Coach of the Year. Eaton also guided her 2002 team to district, bi-district and regional championships.

Eaton spent 5 years at St. Bernard High School before accepting the job at Xavier Prep. She was coach of the year in 1998 and 1999, leading her team to district and bi-district titles in both years. In addition to coaching, Eaton’s credentials include collegiate playing experience. From 1992-94, she played shooting guard under legendary Coach Mary D. Teamer at Dillard University. Originally from Eastabuchie, Mississippi, Eaton was a prep star at South Jones High School under Phillip James. She helped to lead South Jones to the 1988 Mississippi High School State Championship, completing the season with an undefeated 37-0 record.

Eaton earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Health and Physical Education from Dillard University in 1994. She also received a Master’s of Education from the University of Phoenix in 2001. She has one son..



Walter Pitts, Assistant Coach

Walter Pitts, a native of Loachapoka, Alabama, entered the Wildcat family in August 2009 as an assistant coach with the Wiley College women’s basketball team. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge, and will be an important part of the day-to-day coaching operation for the athletics department. Prior to joining Wiley, he coached at Stillman College in 2007, and was an assistant coach at Howard Junior College in 2008. He has great connections in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) circuit and has worked several camps at Division 1 institutions such as the University of Alabama, the University of Houston, and the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Coach Pitts also brings expertise from his work in the Greg Polinsky NBA Youth Camps.

While in high school, Coach Pitts was awarded the State of Alabama Most Valuable Player for three consecutive years (1988-1990) which led his team to back-to-back state titles. After graduating from high school, he continued his athletic career while attending Tyler Junior College (TJC) in Texas. During his tenure at TJC, he was named All Conference Player for two successive years.

Upon returning to his home state, Coach Pitts played at the University of Alabama and continued to build his athletic resume by receiving the Guy Lee Turner Defensive Award twice. He helped the Crimson Tide basketball team become major contenders by competing in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) in 1992, and making a tournament appearance in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament in 1993. After completing his eligibility, Coach Pitts continued his athletic career by playing professional basketball in South America. He played successfully for four years and secured the title of the South American League.

Coach Pitts returned to his alma mater and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Environmental Science in 2007. Mr. Pitts is the proud father of two children.
