Walter Alan Wiederhold, Sports Information Director

Alan Wiederhold joined the Wiley College athletics staff in August 2012 as the College's Sports Information Director (SID). Wiederhold brings an extensive background in sports journalism and sports communication to Wiley College after serving two years as the SID at LeTourneau University in nearby Longview, Texas.

Wiederhold is no stranger to the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC), as he served as the Director of Basketball Media Relations at Huston-Tillotson University (HT), in Austin, Texas. During his time at HT, he handled all functions of athletic communications for the men's and women's basketball teams and served as an official statistician during the 2008 RRAC Basketball Tournament. During his tenure at LeTourneau, Wiederhold established himself as one of the most versatile and energetic SIDs in the American Southwest Conference (ASC), having worked post season events in softball and soccer, as well as the ASC's crossover weekends in both volleyball and softball.

Wiederhold's post season resume includes two National Collegiate Association of Athletics (NCAA) Regional Softball Tournaments, one NCAA Regional soccer match, the 2012 ASC Softball Championship Tournament, and the National Junior College Association of Athletics (NJCAA) Region XIV Basketball Tournament. Prior to his time at LeTourneau, he served as a graduate assistant in the athletic media relations department at Delta State University in Cleveland, MS. during the 2009-10 academic years. He also served as the Sports Editor of the Seguin Gazette and Llano County Journal newspapers.

A 2003 graduate of Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas, he completed additional coursework in Mass Communications at Texas State University in San Marcos from 2005 to 2008. While in San Marcos, he worked in the school's athletic media relations department and was an active member of Texas State's chapter of Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship.

Wiederhold is active in Chi Alpha alumni relations, and holds professional memberships with the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA); Black College Sports Information Directors of America (BCSIDA) and the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ).
