Welcome to the Wiley College Athletics Site
The Lady Wildcats (8-1, 1-0 Red River Athletic Conference) moved to No. 18 in the first in-season poll of the 2013-14 year released Tuesday. Wiley College moved up four places from the preseason ranking that was released Oct. 29.
The Wildcats men's basketball team (6-1, 1-0 RRAC) were tied with Life University (Ga.) for the 20th spot in the Division I men's basketball coaches' poll, which was also released Tuesday. The Wildcat men made their first appearance in the NAIA Top 25 poll since Jan. 16, 2008.
Under the direction of head coach Andre Payne, the Wildcat men are 5-0 against unranked competition this season. They split a home-and-home series with preseason No. 19 Xavier (La.), which fell to No. 25 in Tuesday's men's basketball poll.
The Wildcat men are the only team from the Red River Athletic Conference to appear in the latest men's poll. Preseason No. 2 LSU Shreveport and preseason No. 24 Our Lady of the Lake both fell out of the latest poll.
Wiley College's men's basketball team also vaulted past the aforementioned RRAC foes and defending 2013 conference champion St. Thomas (Texas) in the latest conference ratings.
Under the direction of third-year head coach Courtney Garrett-Pruitt, the Lady Wildcats have won seven consecutive games since dropping a 74-69 decision to former RRAC foe Texas Wesleyan on Nov. 12. In their eight victories this season, the Lady Wildcats have defeated their opponents by an average of 18.4 points per contest.
The Lady Wildcats have appeared in 12 consecutive NAIA Division I women's basketball polls since Jan. 8 of this year, when they ended a drought of nearly five years.
