Wiley senior Shammia Williams was crowned Miss Wiley College 2015-2016 during a coronation ceremony Friday night in the Julius S. Scott Sr. Chapel.  Wiley senior Kenneth Crawford, who is president of the College's Student Government Association, was Ms. Williams' escort.  A host of family, friends, fellow classmates, faculty, staff, and alumni came out to support Ms. Williams and to enjoy the coronation, despite the rainy evening.(Read More of story below.)

Ms. Williams, a native of Sibley, Louisiania, said the experience of being crowned Miss Wiley and enjoying the evening with family and friends has created a memory she knows she will always cherish. She is also ready to begin her reign.

 "I am so blessed to have the opportunity to represent Wiley College in this way," she said.  "During this year, I look forward to upholding Wiley's legacy of excellence by performing well in my studies and by giving back through service to my campus and the Marshall community."

Over the years at Wiley College, Ms. Williams has served in the Student Pastors Organization of Chaplains, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Imitators Promoting Acts of Christ Together Campus Ministry, Student Government Association as Sophomore Class Chaplain, Miss Junior 2014-2015, and member of the Pre- Alumni Council.

While being actively engaged in campus and community life as a student leader, Ms. Williams has been determined to place her academic studies first.  And with a 3.9 grade point average, the religion and philosophy major has been successful in achieving excellence in the classroom.

After graduating from Wiley, Ms. Williams plans to pursue a Master of Science degree in Pastoral Counseling.  She would like to one day open up her own practice. She also plans to continue to develop her ministry through preaching as well as by performing via her youth and praise dance ministries.
