Academic Affairs
Back to Administration Page | Back to Cabinet Page Academic Affairs is responsible for the overall coordination of the educational program of the College. Academic Affairs is comprised of three degree-granting divisions: Arts and Sciences, Business and Technology, and Education. A fourth division, General Education and Special Studies (GESS), although not a degree-granting unit, coordinates the general core liberal arts education requirements and provides placement testing, initial advisement and support for freshmen and transfer students. Placement testing is done in collaboration with the Office of Institutional Research, Planning and Assessment. GESS also coordinates the developmental education services of the College. Academic Affairs also is responsible for activities of the Thomas Winston Cole, Sr. Library and Resource Center, the Student Support Services Unit, the Upward Bound Program and the Evening and Weekend Education Program for non-traditional students. Three coordinating academic areas were created within the Division of Arts and Sciences and two within the Division of Business and Technology to facilitate administration of closely related departmental majors and minors.
