Wiley College has an opening for an Assistant or Associate Professor of History for the 2013-2014 academic year. A doctorate in History or evidence of completion of all course work at the doctoral level, i.e. ABD with completion of dissertation within six months to one year is required. Applicants will be required to demonstrate teaching ability and operational knowledge of office and educational technology. The primary goal of this position is to teach undergraduate history courses including, and not limited to U. S. History I and II, and related courses that will attract and retain history and non-history majors. Priority will be given to a candidate with either a doctorate in History with at least 18 graduate hours in Political Science, or a doctorate in Political Science with at least 18 hours in History. Primary responsibilities include collaboration with the faculty of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities to develop interdisciplinary and synchronized courses that will improve retention of students in the social sciences and humanities; implementation of scholarly activities including procurement of teaching and research grants; participation in student recruitment and the promotion of the social sciences both in and outside Wiley College; academic advisement to assigned students, including the development and monitoring of their degree plans; assistance with career counseling; and preparation of students for internships and graduate studies. The successful candidate will balance teaching, research, and office hours to promote peer and student interactions in support of the mission and vision of the College; participate actively in assessment activities for program effectiveness as well as in student activities; serve on committees of the College as assigned; and perform other duties assigned by the Lead Professor, Dean, or the Vice President for Academic Affairs. All candidates should have a strong commitment to teaching undergraduate students in an ethnically diverse environment and experience in cutting-edge uses of information technology to advance learning.
