Wiley College has an immediate need for an Assistant or Associate Professor Sociology. A doctorate in sociology or a related field is required. Evidence of completion of all course work at the doctorate level; i.e., ABD with completion of dissertation within six months to one year will be accepted. All applicants will be required to demonstrate teaching ability. The primary goal of this position is to develop and teach undergraduate sociology courses including, and not limited to introduction to sociology, research methods, social statistics, introduction to human services, social work practice, and related courses that will attract and retain sociology and non-sociology majors. Priority will be given to a candidate with either a doctorate in sociology with at least 18 graduate hours in social work, or a doctorate in social work with at least 18 hours in sociology. Primary responsibilities include collaboration with the faculty of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities (sociology, psychology, communication, anthropology, criminal justice) to develop attractive, collaborative, interdisciplinary, and synchronized courses that will improve retention of students in the social sciences and humanities; implementation of scholarly activities including procurement of teaching and research grants; participation in student recruitment and the promotion of the social sciences both in and outside of Wiley College; providing academic advisement to assigned students, including the development and monitoring of their degree plans; assisting in career counseling, and qualifying students for internships and graduate studies. The successful candidate will balance teaching, research, and office hours to promote peer and student interactions in support of the mission and vision of the College; participate actively in assessment activities for program effectiveness as well as in student activities, committees of the College as assigned; and perform other duties assigned by the Dean of the division or the Vice President for Academic Affairs. All candidates should have a strong commitment to teaching undergraduate students in an ethnically diverse environment and experience in cutting-edge uses of information technology to advance learning.
