JB Haggerty, Head Track and Field and Cross Country CoachCoach JB Haggerty entered his first year at Wiley College in August 2011 as the Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach. He currently teaches and coaches at Tatum High School, and has provided leadership and service to the coaches and athletes of track and field throughout his career. His coaching includes experience in several Texas school districts: Royal Independent School District (four years); Pittsburg Independent School District (one year); Karnack Independent School District (12 years), and Tatum Independent School District (20 years to date). Coach Haggerty has accomplished several team and personal accolades. He has coached five (5) State Championship teams in Track and Field for both girls' and boys' events. He was the Special Teams Coordinator in football, achieving two (2) State Championships, and two (2) Runner-ups during his tenure. His success did not end on the fields; it also continued to flourish in the classrooms. Coach Haggerty was named Assistant Principal of The Year in Region VII; two-time recipient of the Classroom Teacher of The Year award and the Texas Lone Star Cup Award recipient at Tatum ISD. Coach Haggerty's experience has made him a sought-after speaker, who is prominent among Texas high schools and at the Texas Boys and Girls Coaches Association. Coach Haggerty attended and graduated from H.B. Pemberton High School in Marshall, Texas. He pursued his post-secondary and higher education at Prairie View A & M University where he earned his Bachelor of Science and Master's degrees. While in college, Coach Haggerty was a member of the Track and Field Team that won five National Championships. His personal accomplishments included NAIA All-American in Track & Field and Dean's List in academics. Coach Haggerty is a member of several professional organizations, which include Texas High School Coaches Association, Southwest Officials Association in Basketball, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Coach Haggerty is married and they are blessed with two daughters.
Madeline Harris, Assistant CoachCoach Madeline Harris began her first year as the Assistant Volleyball and Track and Field coach at Wiley College in August 2011. She brings her love and passion for the each sport. She is a graduate of Marshall High School and a true Maverick. During her tenure in high school, she set her sights on excelling in academics and athletics. She received many awards, such as Most Valuable Player, All District-Best Hitter, and the Dial Female Athlete of the Year in 1988. In conjunction with her volleyball career, she competed on the track team where she was a three- time Hurdler Regional Qualifier. Her hard work paid off when she attended the University of Oklahoma (UO) in Norman, Oklahoma on an athletic scholarship. During her career at UO, she earned honors on the Academics ALL-BIG 8 Conference Team for three consecutive years. In 1991, she was recognized for the Defensive Specialist runner up, and was heavily involved with student activities and community service activities. Coach Harris began her coaching career by coaching club volleyball at different age levels. She worked at the collegiate level for two years at LeTourneau University and spent her last years coaching at Longview High School prior to joining Wiley College. She brings a variety of experience to the Athletics Department with certifications in Diversity Training and Peer Mediation in Conflict Resolution. Coach Madeleine Harris earned two degrees from the University of Oklahoma, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 1993 and Master's of Human Relations in 1995. Coach Harris is married with two children. |
